Future smartphones will be foldable, have a virtual avatar or be like robots in your hands? Take your guess!

Smartphones have revolutionized the way we live. No more queuing for getting a ticket booked, no more fear of getting lost in an unknown town, no more hustles for enjoying the internet and….( can write 100 things). The list is very long. We all are smartphone fans and are always excited about what to come in this sector. Companies know this and hence are involved in extensive research for making their smartphones heavy in features and light in expense.

It is tough to exactly predict what smartphones will look like and be like in the forthcoming time, but we can make our assumptions after analyzing the current state of the smartphone sector. We have concluded it to a list of capabilities which smartphones will feature. Some of them have already been introduced but are in their “beta” state. Some have gone far but still not upto the mark.

The list follows:
Augmented Reality

AR, acronym for Augmented Reality is the most common term you’ll hear from the people involved in R&D of smartphones.

Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.

The following paragraph is for those who are new to this term, if you have seen the demonstration of AR, you may like to skip the next paragraph.

Suppose you are playing a game, a battle game lets say, you are the fighter and your home is the battlefield. Everything is so real that you feel that your home has turned into a battlefield. Sounds exciting, and is more exciting to feel.

Smartphones can be a great platform for AR to work. You’ll just have to open the camera and the phone will tell you about the restaurants nearby( or any other thing which you’re searching for), which otherwise would be a difficult task to open certain apps and then search, wait and then get incomplete results. The biggest hurdle faced in the development of AR is the limited recognition capacity. The capacity of our smartphones to recognize whats in their camera view. As this problem is circumvented , AR will be on the next step.
Flexible Screens:

Well, that is the start, in future you will be able to carry a smartphone with screen size as large as a big TV and the smartphone will fold and fit into your pocket.

The new OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology will allow screens of future to be foldable
and dual sided. And this magical screen will be as thin as a sheet of paper!
In Built Projector

Thats an old thing! Yes! we know, but the range and luminosity will be far much better in next gen smartphones that those phones will be able to serve as an alternate of projectors. You’ll just need a flat surface to enjoy high quality visuals.

Smartphones with in Built projector had been introduced in the previous decade. But they were not suitable for real life entertainment. Battery backup issue also created a trade-off. It is being hoped that these problems will be solved in the near future.
Seamless Voice Control:

Voice control has been receiving much attention since Siri made headlines. Voice control has existed in many earlier mobile phones even though the voice recognition function was crude at best. Research has been made to advance the development of voice control, but it has proved to be a paramount task.

The way Siri interprets the voice input has signaled a breakthrough in the ways of voice interpretation through artificial intelligence. Instead of just depending on the sound waves for recognition of commands, Siri also makes note of the diction and syntax. Such interfaces are more accurate and easy to use.

This, combined with gesture recognition may result in smartphones that will understand non verbal inputs and talk to us in the way other humans do.
Holograms and 3D Display

With Apple’s Retina Display, we’re already very much progressed in terms of screen quality. Next is the time for 3D. There are couple of smartphones already present in the market which have a 3D screen. We can expect this feature to be a common one among phones in future.
On further advancement, smartphones will be powered with holographic display. This means that you will be able to interact with your screen objects directly and in a fun way.

When looking into purchasing a new smartphone, consumers look at a wide range of variables before making a final decision. This can vary from person to person, with some looking for a great camera and high quality display, while others are more focused on longevity, with removable batteries and microSD expansion. Whatever your personal points of consideration may be, most of us can unite on the fact that we want our devices to be able to withstand the day-to-day wear and tear it will inevitably go through. If you are considering a purchase of the hottest property in the mobile industry right now, the Samsung Galaxy S4, will surely want to know whether it can hold its own in the big bad world, and the video stress test below gives a general idea of how rugged the current darling of the Android space is when faced with various situations.

Of course, the best course of action anybody can take upon the purchase of a new smartphone is to pay out for a decent, reputable and protective case. But even then, it’s a last line of defense rather than a failsafe, and as such, it’s nice to have a general idea in advance of how tough your beastly new smartphone will be when you take it into the wild.

The stress tests are provided officially by Samsung, so by default, cannot be classed as strictly objective. However, it doesn’t look like the testing techniques have been rigged to flatter the company’s flagship handset, so the fact that it performed rather well after being dropped, smashed, submerged in water, and placed in other situations that would send a chill down our spines as owners, is neither here nor there.

When will my phone get Android 4.0 Upgrade? Whom do I contact for the complain or more info? Will the manufacturer introduce improved upgraded version of existing model which I own? These are common question infront of most Android Device owners.

In my opinion, all these questions can be summed up and categorised into two problems: Upgrades and Introduction of new Range Smartphones.

The presentation of the expected Android version 4.0 marked the start of an uncertain future for all owners of previous versions of the phone with operating system from Google.

Except phones sponsored by Google, the other manufacturers slow down and cast doubt on the time that their terminals in the market will be upgradeable to the new version. Glancing at the calendar of updates, each brand being advertised (although frequent changes) for Android 4.0, would not be surprising to submit a new version before that happened.

Google has not put order in all this mess and neither seems to want to put it when they are on track to become a player in the league of those who combine the power on both the hardware and the software. With this scenario we do not miss anything craving for manufacturers such as Samsung to pursue other alternatives.

Another nightmare to which Google may not be directly responsible is introduction of new range smartphones with improved features. We can not forget that afterall they make money by selling phones, and if new models come out so often, it works. It is not surprising that the buyer of a new terminal feels abandoned to their fate a few months or even weeks.

The clearest example can be taken of MWC, when all the companies draw their new phones, Showed that with Android 4.0 already inside it, and think only of selling without regard to the buyers who already trust them and are at the tail of the attention of the company.

Android’s own advantage by allowing a wider market and where there is plenty of choice has led companies with similar characteristics in their models, turn to introduce new phones so often and also with operating system customizations, some use it as an excuse to confirm that some models are not able to upgrade to the latest version of Android.

I think Google should put some restrictions about this fragmentation atleast for the sake of users and not just try to gain market. Do you have any suggestion on this?

The first-person shooter genre has really flourished on modern mobile devices, and up there mixing it with the best of them is Gameloft’s modern combat series. The publisher has quite a few similar titles available for both Android and iOS, but the Modern Combat franchise has easily been its strongest hitherto. Having already developed a strong legion of fans, Gameloft has just gone ahead and teased a trailer for Modern Combat 5, and even though the previous releases have enjoyed high-end, console-esque visuals and gameplay, this latest version appears to have stepped things up once more. Details, as well as that trailer, can be found after the jump!

Back in March, Gameloft showed off its first teaser image of the latest Modern Combat, and while that was rather impressive in itself, nothing beats a little teaser trailer. Today, the prayers of avid fans have been answered, and although it’s perhaps not as showy and involved as an in-game trailer (look out for that, ’cause that’ll be the next step), it does at least offer a vague insight into the newly improved graphics.

As well presenting the title as looking a tad sharper than its predecessor, the Modern Combat 5 trailer also offers a glimpse into what we can only construe as new missions. Vehicles such as speedboats and helicopters are hinted heavily in the video you’re about to watch, and if that’s not something to get rather excited about, I don’t know what is!

Apart from a few little hints and the confirmation that Modern Combat 5 will be available on both Android and iOS, there’s precious little else in the way of detail. With that said, Gameloft will be unveiling all at this year’s E3 in LA, and with proceedings kicking off next week, we won’t have to wait a great deal of time to find out what else is in store.
