Gravity Screen Off For Android Intelligently Turns The Screen On Off Using Accelerometer And Proximity Sensor

Gravity Screen Off For Android Intelligently Turns The Screen On Off Using Accelerometer And Proximity Sensor

Gravity Screen Off for Android allows you to automatically turn your device’s display on or off based on its proximity. More details and the APK download link can be found right after the break.
This particular app would definitely be beneficial for those Android owners who are constantly interacting with their device on a regular basis. Checking the time, reading an incoming message or just whipping the device out to play a game invariably means unlocking the device with a swipe, or passcode, and then applying the lock again when the user is finished doing what they are doing. Gravity Screen Off could be a perfect companion that automates that whole process intelligently.

When installed on the phone or tablet, the app monitors the orientation of the hardware using the built-in sensors and makes all of its screen based decisions based on that data. The developer of the app has used certain logic regarding the position of the phone or tablet to determine whether or not the display should be enabled or disabled. When the device is facing downward at an angle greater than the one hard-coded into the app, then the display is turned off as it is deemed not in use.

Gravity Screen Off also comes with a set of main features that should cover most users out of the box. The Pocket Sensor mode detects whether or not the phone is placed in a pocket using the proximity sensor, whereas the Table Sensor mode looks for data from the sensors that indicates that the tablet is lying flat on a hard surface. There are bound to be situations where this app just won’t perform as expected, especially when it comes to things like games that rely on device movement, but it’s a good enough implementation to be worth checking out.
Gravity Screen Off 2
There’s a Pro version available at the Play Store as well, which will unlock the complete set of features which Gravity Screen Off has to offer and will set you back just $1.42. Not bad for the amount of functionality it has to offer, but give the free version a spin first, which we’ve linked below, and if you’re satisfied, then make the jump to the Pro version.

Samsung Galaxy NX Android Powered Camera Announced Features 20 3MP Sensor Interchangeable Lenses

Samsung Galaxy NX Android Powered Camera Announced Features 20 3MP Sensor Interchangeable Lenses

Samsung has long since shown more than just a fleeting interest in the photography, and has further underlined its intention to improve the options available to camera lovers by announcing yet another Android-based camera. The Galaxy NX Camera, which the Korean company just unveiled at its Premiere 2013 event today, packs an impressively large, 20.3-megapixel sensor, and with interchangeable lenses, is certainly a step up from last year’sGalaxy Camera.
Smartphones have really pushed the envelope for easily accessible cameras, and the Android interface provides the perfect hotbed for wannabe photography aficionados to hone their skills. The Galaxy Camera was Samsung’s first effort, and the Galaxy NX camera borrows the same idea and develops it further.

The marquee feature has to go down as the 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, and although we’ve been enjoying vastly improved shot-taking ability on our smartphones over the past few years, the Galaxy NX is certainly a step up from what we have become accustomed to.
It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean along with Samsung’s aftermarket TouchWiz overlay, and with a solid 1.6GHz quad-core processor, will deliver a very slick Jelly Bean experience.
Galaxy NX 1
One of the major annoyances with the Galaxy Camera was that, despite running on Android, it didn’t have phone capabilities, and although this is to be expected of a camera, the Galaxy NX may once again frustrate those struggling to adapt to the arrangement of a small screen without the ability to make and receive calls.
With that said, the Galaxy NX does throw in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity right out of the box, allowing users to easily upload / share their high resolution images with the rest of the world.
Galaxy NX 2
The Galaxy NX Camera isn’t the only device Samsung has prepared to woo the growing crowd of snap-happy folks, either. The Galaxy S4 Zoom may not be as technically proficient as the real thing, but its shot-taking capabilities will see it challenge Nokia’s impressive PureView tech for supremacy within the smartphone market.
Galaxy NX 3
The Galaxy NX will be available for purchase this summer. The pricing is yet to be disclosed later on.
On first impressions, what do you make of the Galaxy NX Camera? Are these Android cameras just a gimmick, or do they serve a viable purpose in combining recognized interfaces with solid hardware? Do share your thoughts below.
